Create a test

Start a new A/B test and open the visual editor.

Go to A/B Tests and click Create test.

Steps

  1. Enter a test name.
  2. Set the target URL — the page you want to experiment on (defaults to your homepage).
  3. Save. The test is created with a default Control variation receiving 100% of traffic.

How the target URL is matched

The target URL is matched as a substring of the visitor's current URL, not as an exact match. A target of /pricing therefore also matches /pricing?ref=email and /pricing/enterprise. If you need tighter control, add a URL pattern targeting rule.

Next: open the editor

From the test, click Visual Editor to launch the visual editor, where you add variations and make changes. Then configure traffic and variations, targeting and goals before activating.

Define a clear hypothesis before you build — "moving the CTA above the fold will increase add-to-cart" — so you know what success looks like. A test without a stated expectation tends to get read as whatever the numbers happen to say.
