Session replay settings
Control how many sessions are recorded and make sure the interesting ones always are.
The Session Replay tab decides how much you record. Recording everything on a high-traffic site burns through your plan's quota quickly and gives you thousands of identical, uninteresting sessions — so the aim is to record fewer sessions but the right ones.
Enable session recording
The master switch. Also available on the Features tab.
Sampling rate
The percentage of sessions recorded. On a busy site, 10% gives you plenty to watch. On a site with a few hundred sessions a day, record 100% — sampling a small number leaves you with nothing to look at.
Smart recording
Sampling is random, and the sessions you most want are not random. Smart recording overrides the sample:
- Always record sessions with errors — any session where a JavaScript error fires is kept regardless of sampling.
- Always record sessions with rage clicks — the same for detected frustration.
With both enabled you can run a low sampling rate and still be confident every broken session is watchable. This is the recommended configuration for most sites.
Quota
Recorded sessions count against your plan. If you are hitting the limit, lower the sampling rate before turning off smart recording — you would rather lose ordinary sessions than the broken ones.
Replay masks input values by default. To control precisely what is masked, see Privacy masking & data attributes.
